The Empty Clinic

Before sunrise, Molar Bear packs the clinic with glacier ice, checks every icicle for cavities and opens exactly one appointment book. Nobody comes. By noon, the waiting room holds unopened toothpaste samples and one offended seal-shaped lamp. He closes early, walks the floe and listens for the clean crunch of fresh snow beneath all four roots.
